Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, at the June 4th meeting Borough Council voted unanimously not to open the Lemoyne Borough Swimming Pool for the 2020 season. Anyone who has purchased passes for the 2020 season will have the choice of receiving a refund or having their pass roll over to 2021.
This decision was not made lightly. Restrictions in place during the yellow and green phases of the Governor’s re-opening plan and stringent safety guidelines issued by the CDC and the PA Department of Health played an important role in the decision.
While it is true that chlorine does kill the virus, it was felt that continued sanitization efforts on hard surfaces (restroom/locker rooms, railings, slides, tables, etc.) would be disruptive to patrons and require extra staff. The occupancy limits of 50% during the yellow phase and 75% during the green phase also played into Council’s decision. Closing the pool this year is disappointing for all of us, but we will use this summer to invest in much-needed maintenance and improvement projects to make the facility safer and more enjoyable to our patrons in coming years.
We thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation, and we look forward to the 2021 season.
