Archeological Dig- Memorial Park

Due to discovery during the Phase I Archeology Survey and further review and comment from the Pennsylvania Historic and Museum Commission’s State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), as part of the Norfolk Southern Lemoyne Connector project, we are required to move ahead with Phase II Archeological work in the Lemoyne Borough park (within a portion of the area from the Phase I done back in October).
The survey staking is scheduled to begin tomorrow (1/3) and the archeological work will begin the following week (1/8). This work will include manual excavation of archaeological test units across the site area. All excavation will be done using hand tools (shovels, trowels, etc) and will continue for approximately 7 weeks. All excavation units will be backfilled after completion of these field investigations.
